Fixing SPF in SiteGround for Google Workspace

What this fixes

SPF lists which servers are authorized to send mail for your domain. See Fixing SPF Record Issues for what it does and why it matters — this guide gives you the exact record for Google Workspace and where to add it in SiteGround.

This assumes your domain's DNS is managed through SiteGround's DNS Zone Editor (i.e. SiteGround's nameservers are set at your registrar).

The record

v=spf1 include:_spf.google.com ~all

Google's own guidance recommends ~all (soft fail) rather than -all. If you send mail through other services too, add their include: mechanisms alongside Google's in the same record.

How to add it in SiteGround

  1. Log in to Site Tools.
  2. Go to Domain → DNS Zone Editor.
  3. Under Record Type, select TXT.
  4. Name: @ or your root domain.
  5. Value: paste the record above.
  6. Click Create.
  7. Re-run your scan to confirm.

If an SPF TXT record already exists, edit it rather than adding a second one.

Common pitfalls

  • Adding a second SPF TXT record instead of editing the existing one — SPF only allows one.
  • Assuming SiteGround manages your DNS by default — if your domain was registered elsewhere and only points its nameservers to SiteGround for hosting, this change may need to happen at that other provider instead.
