What this fixes
DMARC tells receiving mail servers what to do with messages that fail SPF or DKIM, and lets you receive reports about spoofing attempts against your domain. See Fixing DMARC Record Issues for what each tag means — this guide covers the GoDaddy-specific steps. Make sure SPF and DKIM are already set up first.
This assumes GoDaddy is managing your DNS (not just registration with DNS hosted elsewhere).
How to fix it
- Log in to your GoDaddy account and go to your Domain Portfolio.
- Select your domain to open Domain Settings, then click the DNS tab.
- Under Records, click Add.
- Set Type to
TXT. - Name/Host:
_dmarc - Value: paste your DMARC record, e.g.
v=DMARC1; p=quarantine; rua=mailto:[email protected]; ruf=mailto:[email protected]; fo=1. - Leave TTL at the default (usually 1 hour).
- Click Save.
- Re-run your scan to confirm.
If a _dmarc TXT record already exists, edit it rather than adding a second one.
Common pitfalls
- Setting
p=rejectbefore verifying all legitimate senders pass SPF/DKIM — start withp=nonewhile reviewing reports, then tighten gradually. - Editing the wrong existing TXT record — GoDaddy's list view can be crowded if you have several; double-check the Name/Host column before saving.
- Forgetting propagation delay — GoDaddy changes can take longer to propagate than other providers; wait at least a few hours before re-scanning.
