What this fixes
DMARC tells receiving mail servers what to do with messages that fail SPF or DKIM, and lets you receive reports about spoofing attempts against your domain. See Fixing DMARC Record Issues for what each tag means — this guide covers the SiteGround-specific steps. Make sure SPF and DKIM are already set up first.
This assumes your domain's DNS is managed through SiteGround's DNS Zone Editor (i.e. SiteGround's nameservers are set at your registrar).
How to fix it
- Log in to Site Tools.
- Go to Domain → DNS Zone Editor.
- Under Record Type, select
TXT. - Name:
_dmarc - Value: paste your DMARC record, e.g.
v=DMARC1; p=quarantine; rua=mailto:[email protected]; ruf=mailto:[email protected]; fo=1. - Click Create.
- Re-run your scan to confirm.
If a _dmarc TXT record already exists, edit it rather than adding a second one.
Common pitfalls
- Setting
p=rejectbefore verifying all legitimate senders pass SPF/DKIM — start withp=nonewhile reviewing reports, then tighten gradually. - Assuming SiteGround manages your DNS by default — if your domain was registered elsewhere and only points its nameservers to SiteGround for hosting, you may need to make this change at the other provider instead. Check Domain → DNS Zone Editor — if it shows no editable zone, your DNS lives elsewhere.
